April 3 WERC Urban Wood Webcast Available On-demand

The Wood Education and Resource Center’s Spring Urban Wood Webcast, held Wednesday, April 3, is now available on-demand.

Presentations featured in the two-hour webcast included:

The agenda for the biannual Urban Wood Webcast has been set. The webcast, which will feature updates of urban wood activities in the Midwest and other parts of the country, is scheduled for 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. (EST) Tuesday, April 11.

The webcast is presented by the Wood Education and Resource Center, a service of the Northeastern Area State & Private Forestry of the U.S. Forest Service.

IWF Urban Wood Seminar Report Slated for Oct. 11 Webcast

iwf_22298-26-16Highlights from the urban wood seminar at the International Woodworking Fair (IWF) will be presented during an Oct. 11 webcast by the Wood Education and Resource Center.

Rich Christianson, communications director of the Illinois Wood Utilization Team, will lead the discussion about “Urban Wood Utilization: Making Products & Profits from Landscape Trees.” The seminar, organized by the Full Circle Urban Forest Network, was held Aug. 26 at IWF 2016, North America’s largest woodworking event.

The IWF presentation is one of nine updates on the docket for WERC’s Fall Urban Wood Utilization Webcast, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (EST) Tuesday, Oct. 11.

The Wood Education and Resource Center (WERC) in Princeton, VA, is an office of the U.S. Forest Service, Northeastern Area. WERC’s mission is to facilitate interaction and information exchange with the forest products industry to enhance opportunities for sustained forest products production in the eastern hardwood forest region of the United States. As part of its involvement with urban wood utilization, WERC conducts biannual conference calls that allow urban wood groups to exchange ideas and learn from one another. These conference calls are archived as webcasts on the WERC’s website.

The most recent webcast from April 2016 includes presentations on Tree Care Industry Association’s draft urban forest products standard; overview of mechanical harvesting of urban trees in Kenosha County, WI; updates from Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin; and an overview of Michigan State University’s Sustainable Wood Recovery Initiative.

USDA Webcast Series Tracks Urban Wood Market Developments

Urban-Wood-Webcast-1.10-15A free webcast updating wood utilization activities in Baltimore, southeast Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Kansas and Georgia is available on demand from the Wood Education and Resource Center (WERC).

The webcast, recorded Oct. 13, is the 10th in a series available for binge watching on WERC’s website. The first webcast in the series was produced in October 2011.

Edith Makra, chairperson of the Illinois Wood Utilization Team, has been a regular presenter during the life of the series.
