Dead Ash Trees Come to Life in Chainsaw Sculptures
Posted in News
Alexis, IL, has become Chicago’s sister city when it comes to turning dying trees into sculptures.
The Quad City Times reported that Alexis resident Brent McNall commissioned chainsaw artist Fernando “Don” Dulnuan to turn some of his ravaged by the emerald ash borer into sculptures of a bear, an owl and a wolf. Dulnuan of Oklahoma was also responsible for carving the 6-foot-tall peace sign sculpture.
For the past several years the Chicago Park District has commissioned artists to create sculptures in parks throughout Chicago as part of its ongoing Chicago Tree Project.
Hi, I have a White Ash tree that is dying from the EAB. I would like to take it down minus a section of the trunk and leave it standing. I would like to have it carved into something memorable. Do you have contacts for this and will the remaining tree survive without rot ? I live In Rock Falls Illinois, any info would be helpful.
Thanks
Rick
Thanks for the note. Your best bet is to work with a tree care professional. Here’s a link to the Illinois Arborist Association’s website. You can search to find members near you. Good luck! http://illinoisarborist.org/
